Downtown Concord Spring into Arts Festival is May 3rd, featuring Carolina Gator Gumbo, Robin Rogers Band, Freeport Jass Band, The Interactive Theater of Jef, the Children's Art Project, and Paint Out Contest!

Concord, NC  -- Downtown Concord's "Spring into Arts Festival" Saturday, May 3, will feature an outstanding line-up of regional bands, children's activities, artist booths, a paint-out competition and food vendors.  The outdoor festival will open at 10 a.m. with activities continuing until 5 p.m.  Live entertainment will be provided by three popular bands:  11 a.m., Carolina Gator Gumbo, Charlotte-based Cajun and Creole band; 1 p.m., Robin Rogers Band, Charlotte blues group.; and 3 p.m., Freeport, Winston-Salem jazz ensemble, 3 p.m.            

The large children's area will feature mime and street performer Jef Lamdin's "InterACTive Theater of Jef," hands-on activities from the Children's Art Project and Blue Baboon amusements' spiral art and face painting. All children's activities are free.  ooths displaying and selling high-quality artwork will line Union Street. Artists, from potters to jewelry makers to painters, will show, demonstrate and sell their work.  Festival goers will also be able to see paint-out competition artists, who are vying for $1,000 in prizes, at work.  The competition, which is open to anyone who wants to register, requires that artists paint in the downtown Concord area on festival day. Awards will be given at a reception at 6 p.m. at the Wedgewood Room at 9 Union Street North. The reception is open to the public, and will give art lovers the opportunity to buy paintings from the competition.  The festival is sponsored by Concord Downtown Development Corporation, Bank of the Carolinas, the Cabarrus Arts Council, the Charlotte Observer, Allied Waste, WDAV 89.9 and Carolinas Medical Center Northeast.  Registration materials and more information about being an artist or food vendor or paint-out participant are available at .
