11th Annual Bank of the Carolinas JV Holiday Classic Raises $14,000

1/06/2010

The Holiday Classic is a JV basketball tournament that attracts teams from the Randoph/Asheboro area and it's surrounding communities.  This year the three day, four gymnasium tournament hosted a total of 52 teams who all came ready to win.  And those 52 teams brought hundreds of fans who all helped raise an astonishing $14,000 for the YMCA's scholarship program.  The mission of the Randolph/Asheboro YMCA is "to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all."  And with this mission in mind, you can see why helping provide memberships to those who may not be able to afford one is top of their list.  This scholarship program does exactly that.  The $14,000 will give low cost (hopefully free) memberships to those in need.  David Cross, a commercial lender for Bank of the Carolinas, as well as executive director of the YMCA has coordinated and organized the tournament year after year.  His hard work and belief in this cause have spearheaded the tournament into becoming the largest JV basketball tournament in the US.  What a tremendous accomplishment!

For the second year in row, Bank of the Carolinas has sponsored and lent their name to the YMCA's annual JV basketball tournament.  We are proud to be part of such a strong, spirited, good will event and hope that the tournament continues to grow.
