BOTC Contributes To Project Independence, 12/22/2008
In an effort to fight homelessness in Cabarrus County, Christian Cooperative Ministry (CCM) created Project Independence: a "teaching house" program where homeless families can establish stability in their lives. Bank of the Carolinas is proud to be the sponsor of the fourth house in the program. With four houses completed and a fifth on the way, Project Independence truly is an incredible program. Three families have already been helped and are currently in their teaching houses. A fourth family will move into the Bank of the Carolinas sponsored house the week of December 22, 2008. Countless gifts and generous volunteers are making these donated "fixer-uppers" into bona fide homes. Families who move into a teaching house will begin paying what they can based on their salary. A family can live in a house for two years while they better their financial management skills, and learn to use community resources. All of the rent they pay goes into a "pot" which will be given to them on their move-out date as a down payment for a house of their own. When approached about Project Independence, Bank of the Carolinas immediately jumped at the opportunity to help. "The ability to sponsor a home and help one family get back on their feet is the least we could do," said Robert Marziano, President, Chairman and CEO of Bank of the Carolinas. "We wish this family only the best, and are sincerely proud to be a part of this life-changing endeavor." |
